New Personal Chef of the Year, Patti Anastasia, Sets the Pace

Patti Anastasia of Anastasia's Table has cooked her way to the top in her career as a personal chef. A member of the Personal Chefs Network, Inc., she was recently awarded the organization's Pacesetter Chef for May 2005, an accolade she can add to her growing list of accomplishments, which include the honor of being voted New Personal Chef of the Year in October 2004.

The Personal Chefs Network is a national organization promoting and supporting personal chefs as they start up and run their own businesses. Co-founders Sharon Worster and Wendy Perry started Personal Chefs Network "as a way to mentor new personal chefs and to offer them a stimulating environment in which to network," according to their Website, www.personalchefsnetwork.com.

Pacesetter Chefs are chosen each month by Worster and Perry, who review the message boards and e-mails received through the Website to determine which chef is going above and beyond the call of duty.

"The person that receives this special recognition has been carefully selected due to their own personal or business success," said Perry. "Many are chosen due to their successful marketing ideas, their wonderful recipes, their activity in the Member's Online Community, networking abilities, leadership in the industry or willingness to share innovative ideas. We like to think outside of the box at Personal Chefs Network, and we encourage our members to do the same."

Sweetening the pot for Anastasia was the fact that she was nominated by her peers for both her recent distinctions. "I was completely blown away when I received the New Personal Chef of the Year award and Pacesetter Chef," said Anastasia. "To know that I was voted by my peers really meant a lot to me."

Anastasia has shared her talents by helping other personal chefs, who express gratitude for her time and advice.

One Web posting by an admirer of Anastasia's read: "In addition to responding in great detail to one of my posts, [Anastasia] put a huge amount of time into e mailing me tons of useful info. for starting up my business, forwarded her personal documents to me for my own use and was just so unbelievably helpful and kind."

Helping fellow chefs is only one piece of Anastasia's busy schedule. In addition to cooking for her clients, Anastasia gives them the gift of service-from buying the weekly groceries to preparing, packing and labeling favorite meals for the week. She even leaves re-heating instructions for each dish.

Customers with food allergies or special dietary requirements pose a challenge Anastasia faces with relish-she thrives on planning exciting dishes for clients with special dietary needs.

"I've become an expert in gluten-free cooking, and being able to truly help my clients is very rewarding," she said. Anastasia has even joined the Gluten Intolerance Association to make sure she is kept up-to-date on the latest news in gluten allergies.

Anastasia explained the secret to her years of success stems from listening to her clients and giving them exactly what they want the way they want it.

"My biggest compliment was when a client said to her husband that maybe she would start cooking for the family again," said Anastasia. "Her husband responded, 'why would you want to do that? Nothing's better than Patti Food.' The relationships I make with my clients are very special to me-it makes my job wonderful."
